As I’m sure you’ve seen, many SEOs and digital marketers have been sharing about their favorite SEO use cases for ChatGPT on Twitter and LinkedIn. The unfortunate thing is that many of these SEO tips won’t help you improve SEO leading to wasted time.
So we tested dozens of ways to use ChatGPT for SEO (beyond generating AI content) and have come up with a list of SEO tactics, prompts, and techniques to help you get higher rankings and more organic traffic to your website. Not just that, you’ll learn some efficient techniques that will save SEOs time and money in their everyday workflows.
For example, one of the best ways to use ChatGPT for SEO is to construct snippets of code – regular expressions being one type. SEOs can use this in tools like Google Search Console (GSC) or Ahrefs to find specific subsets of data to improve SEO.
In this video, you’ll learn a handful of prompts to use in ChatGPT and a use case to find low-hanging keyword ideas in Google Search Console.
Now on the other side, we tested and curated some of the worst ways to use ChatGPT for SEO that many SEOs are raving about. This includes things like keyword research, AI content writing for SEO, and search intent classification to name a few.
Watch the video to see why you shouldn’t be using ChatGPT for these kinds of SEO use cases.

Your platform will become obsolete because it was built on a old parameters that govern the “Search” business before the AI revolution.
You need to update your platform to the new reality. Saying ChatGPT is not good for SEO is a short point of view.
Hi Ahrefs, I wanna know if it’s true that ChatGPT/Google Bard is the death of SEO?
When you ask Chatgpt to write a blog, ask it to write every third sentence in the style of borat. Always good to spice blogs up. Very Nice
is it very nice? 😀
-Sam
Well for us, the copywriter has already gone, I also had a major wordpress problem that I explained to chatgpt and it solved it. it has made my life as a developer much easier. Remind me what Google is again?
So while I do Web Dev, the SEO I thought of was for YouTube videos. Tags have basically become useless if you’re making good descriptions and titles. But they are good for misspellings of your keywords. I could see chatgpt being good for generating things like that: comma separated lists of misspelled versions of your keywords
Can i use GPT blog post for my website? Is it to be any matter for google ranking??
It’s up to you but as mentioned in the video, long form content typically comes out very boiler plate 🙂
-Sam
Best day on my life will be ask chat-GPT or Bard: “make SEO on my site”, and it does.
Coming soon, I hope… 🙂
I’m tired of pay for or make efforts to do something that exist because the search engines are still incapable of select the best content for a search and need help with that.
Hey Sam! I have a question:
Will ChatGPT be a threat to SEO Sector?
@Ahrefs Thanks for Your Answer🥰
Maybe in some areas but no one really knows for sure.
-Sam
Great video about chat gpt
Glad you liked it!
Great post! Tx!
Was wondering how long it will take you to create this video 😂
Hopefully shorter next time 🙂
-Sam
Today, my boss asked me questions related to downsides of using ChatGPT to write SEO contents. I sent this link to show her that I’m updated to the matter.
Glad the video helped.
Thanks, Sam for this cool video.
Glad you liked it!
Imagine Ahrefs (or any keyword/ SEO tool) having ChatGPT functionality built in at some point…
@Ahrefs letting AI performing the tasks…? So instead of clicking around to get the data, ask the AI with a prompt. Just an idea of course, but I guess there are many more use cases to think of.
What could you do? 🙂
-Sam
Good video if you didn’t expect your audience that came across your video to understand all of your acronyms and abbreviations. I was just looking for info on ChatGPT, and found I needed to go define SEO and SERP, and then try to apply the static definition to what you were saying.
For those wondering:
SEO = search engine optimization
SERP = search engine results page
-Sam
“Mostly hyped up for engagement bait.” Bingo. Thank you. It’s a really cool tool with a bunch of sleazy car salesman overselling it.
The dopamine hit is real
-Sam
I only use Chat Gpt to write some Introductions and Conclusions for my blog. 😅
> then it gets repetitive
Imo, this is one of the problems with ChatGPT or any GPT for that matter. Content generation all sounds the same – rambling about nothing.
-Sam
@Ahrefs It is ok for one or two times, then it gets repetitive. Generally, I regenerate 3 or 4 answers and only use good sentences from them. 😅😆
Are you happy with the results?
-Sam
Me too
Great video thank you, also you must add that its not updated,so with keyword generating will fail if you deal with live events
Chatgpt does not have access to live data.
I think many miss this limitation.
Yea there’s a chrome extension that gives it that functionality. I think it’s called researchchatgpt but I think it only searches the top 3 results of google
Yet. It’s a research trial so functionality is massively limited
Hey Sam your research about chat gpt is cool, but it brought some questions to ask with you.
What do u think will chat gpt take over the seo professional job from the market?
If I had to guess, no, if you’re halfway decent at SEO. But no one knows the future 🙂
